STAMPING PROCESS
We hope this opens your eyes to a world of unparalleled distinction and choices. From interior flooring to exterior hardscapes, nothing quite compares to the versatility and reliability of colored and stamped concrete. A traditional concrete driveway or patio is a wonderful investment, but a colored and stamped driveway, patio or sidewalk will provide an elegant or dramatic look.
Please understand that it is an important project to us as well. Our business is based on the success of every project and the happiness of each and every customer. Before you begin your selection process, it is important that you have a basic understanding of the stamped concrete process. Once you have decided on a location for your stamped concrete, you can focus on the vision for the final product.
PATTERN: There are five basic pattern types: brick, Stone, Slate, Wood and Seamless. This should help narrow down which pattern to look at first. Consider patterns that compliment your existing hardscape or interior decor rather than trying to “match” existing surfaces and/or surroundings.
BASE COLOR : Once you’ve chosen a pattern, you must select colors. Two colors: Base color and an accent color. When precise color matching is required, a jobsite sample is recommended. A release color is used to keep the stamp from sticking during stamping. It also offers an accent color to the concrete. When selecting the release color, be sure to use a color that accents your base color. Tips: Usually, darker release agents over lighter base colors work best.
STAMPING PROCESS: Immediately following the application of the release agent, your contractor will begin the stamping process by stamping tools into the concrete surface. The texture/pattern is created as the tool is pressed into the wet concrete. A portion of the colored release agent is embedded into the textured surface of the concrete during this process. Final colors will not appear until the concrete is sealed and fully cured. No traffic or pets on the newly stamped concrete until the following day. You will need joints cut in the concrete to help prevent crack(s).
Surfaces to high traffic areas, de-icing salts, or chemical exposure may exhibit wear more quickly. Maintaining your newly stamped concrete is important! Periodically you will need it sealed for wear or damage. It is recommended to seal every 1-2 years. It gives the color the vibrant look as the day it was installed.
